He's Back from Camp Kirk!

Why did I want to start helping and supporting other families? This kid right here!

I’ve been his advocate for 9 years. For 9 years I’ve cried about him and been worried about his future. We sent him off the Camp Kirk this summer for the second time. If you haven’t heard of the place do yourself a huge favor and check it out. Last summer he stayed on the outside of camp life. Kept to himself, didn’t make too many friends. So much so that I emailed the camp director to ask if he was having fun after I saw many pictures of him alone.

We got a call earlier this week saying he was really struggling to work out the group play thing. That this year he was taking bigger risks in group play. This was leading to bigger and more out bursts then they had ever seen. I thought all this stuff we had been doing was not making a difference. That the Occupational Therapy Camp and one on one work we were doing wasn't helping. That we weren’t making progress.

Today I got the best news!!!! He's making gains, small but mighty!n

Just look at that picture. In all his life I’ve ever seen him that “tight” with a friend. He had a great day and was able to keep himself in check. I can only hope this is the start. Are you struggling with a child who you need help with? Don’t know where to turn for help? Need help with finding resources or support? Let me help you and be your support. Trust me I’ve been there!

Curious about Camp Kirk, check out the podcast episode that I did with Erica Coutts the Director of the camp. So much great information and insight into why to send kids to Camp Kirk.
